“Kenny has cancer???? Wait…Kenny Hawkins???”
An unbelievable diagnosis that will throw anyone into shock. Since October 16, 2017, this has been the Hawkins’ reality. Surgery, tests, and specialists pinpointed a diagnosis of colon cancer stage 4 that has metastasized to Kenny’s lung. His last visit from the surgeon brought good news that he is recovering better than expected from his bowel removal (no colostomy bag -YAY!).Kenny has one good shot at beating this and he is taking it in good Kenny style. Full of spitfire and with all positive thoughts. No doubt, the next year is going to be tough. Chemo treatments will begin on 11/28/2017– the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
All the while, our community has pulled together in ways that should make us all proud and restores our faith in the goodness of each other.We have fed this family to the gills (yet Linda is still too skinny!), trying our best to get Kenny’s strength up. Our community has brought surprise visits from many friends…assuring Kenny he is not alone. We have also brought knowledge to the table with really good insight, advice and even connections to specialized doctors! People have been supporting not just Kenny but Linda, Zack, Sarah and Paul too. The Hawkins are overcome and humbled and wish to thank everyone for every little thing. It all helps.
The financial burden that comes along with this diagnosis is unavoidable. Some have asked how they can help with the medical bills.In response to this request, we have put together this easy link.
